Today, we’re trying something different.

One of our readers (and course students) sent me a video to get my thoughts.

After watching it (only 30 seconds!), I thought it was a great teaching opportunity. Well, I asked him if it’d be OK if I shared this with the rest of you, and he said go for it! Now that’s being brave!

It’s fun for me to get on camera (and another opportunity for me to “put my money where my mouth is”), so I hope this is an engaging way to voice my ideas.

I’m also curious to hear what YOU think about this, too (not only the format, but what I say).

(By the way, Joel’s audio is MUCH better than this video lets on, so don’t fault him for that—I didn’t record things properly (see comments below), and I’ll know better for next time! Always learning…)

What do YOU think of this critique? Anything I missed?

Do you agree with what I said about Joel? Would you offer any other advice?

Thanks to Joel for putting himself on camera AND letting me share this with all of you! Go Joel!

As I mention in the video, I’m using Screencastify for the software. Very easy to work with and a fun platform—lots of tools you can use!

See you next time!

  1. Great idea – and way to go, Joel!

I agree with the smile part – but then again, there’s a certain masculine quality to Joel’s expression that works without a smile too and that matches the background music perfectly.

Nathan, would there be a way to make the audio on Joel’s video more clear?

    Thank you both!

    Kindly,
    Halina

    • Thanks for weighing in here, Halina!

And YES – good to point out that Joel’s original audio does sound better. I’m still figuring out things with Screencastify, and I recorded the sound of Joel’s video as it was playing through my speakers and then recorded by my mic. Slightly shorter answer: not ideal! I just tested and I’ll be sure to record the “tab audio” so that I get better quality audio in the future. Thanks for making me look into that! 🙂
